16th National Assembly consolidates Vietnam’s key leadership
The first session of the 16th National Assembly elected key personnel positions for the 2026–2031 term, consolidating the leadership and laying an important foundation for enhancing national governance capacity and achieving development goals.
The first session of the 16th National Assembly took place at Dien Hong Hall on April 6, marking the beginning of the 2026–2031 legislative term, with the key task of consolidating key state leadership positions in accordance with the Constitution. The National Assembly elected and approved leadership positions of the National Assembly, the State, the Government, and key judicial bodies.

On April 6, the 16th National Assembly convenes the first session at the Dien Hong Hall at the National Assembly Building in Hanoi.

National Assembly voted to elect the National Assembly Chairperson for the 2026–2031 term.

With 491 out of 491 deputies votes in favor, the National Assembly passes a resolution electing Mr. Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the 15th National Assembly, as Chairman of the 16th National Assembly.

On the afternoon of April 6, with 100% approval from participating deputies, the National Assembly passes a resolution electing the Vice Chairpersons of the 16th National Assembly, including Mr. Do Van Chien, Mr. Nguyen Khac Dinh, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien, Mr. Nguyen Doan Anh, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, and elected members of the Standing Committee of the 16th National Assembly.

On the morning of April 7, with 495 out of 495 deputies voting in favor, the National Assembly adopts a Resolution electing General Secretary To Lam as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2026–2031 term.

On the afternoon of April 7, with 100% approval from 495 deputies, the 16th National Assembly elects Le Minh Hung, a Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission, and a deputy of the 16th National Assembly, as Prime Minister for the 2026–2031 term.
