Volunteer Campaign Educates Fishermen on IUU Fishing Regulations

The volunteer campaign “Green March 2024,” launched by the navy and the Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial Youth Union on Sunday, aims to inform fishermen about regulations on illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and promote sustainable development in the fisheries industry.

This campaign is part of the effort to lift the European Commission’s yellow card imposed on Vietnamese seafood by raising awareness, fostering a sense of responsibility, and encouraging collaboration with functional forces and local authorities.

At the launch ceremony in Long Hai town, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, organizers distributed 50 life jackets, 50 national flags, and leaflets detailing the Prime Minister’s directive on sanctioning administrative violations in the fisheries sector.

Lieutenant Colonel Phan Dinh Hoang, Deputy Secretary of Navy Squadron 129’s Youth Union, emphasized the squadron’s commitment to coordinating with the Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial Youth Union to implement the Vietnam People’s Navy program. “The youths operating at sea excel at disseminating maritime law to fishermen, assisting with repairs, and providing free fresh water and other necessities. We are also ready to conduct search and rescue operations at sea,” Hoang said.

Following the launch ceremony, members of Squadron 129’s Youth Union and young people from Long Hai town participated in a beach clean-up at Long Hai.
