Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), World Trade Organization (WTO), and other international bodies in Geneva, emphasized the need for intensified endeavors to advance gender equality and empower women and girls in all facets of peace and security processes.

Addressing the inter-regional group during the Item 10 General Debate at the 55th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council, Ambassador Dung underscored the pivotal roles women and girls play in realizing the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

He proposed several measures including prioritizing the comprehensive involvement of women and girls in decision-making across various domains such as politics, economics, culture, and social affairs. Particularly, he highlighted their significance in poverty alleviation, ensuring sustainable livelihoods, fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, and dismantling gender barriers.

Moreover, Ambassador Dung stressed the imperative of facilitating women’s participation and leadership in areas like science, technology, and digital transformation.

Furthermore, he recommended allocating resources and bolstering capacity-building efforts to foster gender equality within institutions and policies globally, especially in developing nations. He emphasized the importance of sharing experiences and fostering cooperation among countries to accelerate SDGs implementation.

Vietnam, as a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term, has identified promoting gender equality and safeguarding human rights in sustainable development as key priorities, reflecting its enduring commitment to addressing international concerns.
