Vietnam, Australia cooperate to develop offshore wind power projects

In Hanoi on March 28, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha welcomed Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski and executives from Corio Generation, a subsidiary of Australia’s Macquarie Group. The Deputy PM commended the proactive efforts of Corio Generation and Power Generation Joint Stock Corporation 3 (EVNGENCO 3) in advancing an offshore windfarm project in Vietnam. Recognizing this endeavor as pivotal for deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Australia, and in alignment with Vietnam’s commitment to the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), the Deputy PM suggested Corio Generation to prioritize technology support and transfer, as well as broaden partnerships within Vietnam during the investment process.

Ambassador Goledzinowski underscored the significance of green energy transition as a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation between Australia and Vietnam, noting a growing interest among Australian businesses in developing offshore wind farms due to Vietnam’s substantial potential in this sector. Furthermore, executives from Corio Generation emphasized the importance of establishing conducive mechanisms and policies to facilitate favorable conditions for investors in renewable energy.
