Vietnam and Cambodia Strengthen Cooperation in Military-Defence Strategy Research

On August 13, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) Sen. Lieut. Gen. Huynh Chien Thang hosted a reception in Hanoi for a delegation from the Centre for Military Strategy Studies of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, led by its director, General Kim Vanna.

Thang congratulated Cambodia on its significant achievements and expressed confidence that, under the leadership of the Cambodian People’s Party led by President Hun Sen and the new administration under Prime Minister Hun Manet, Cambodia would continue to achieve even greater success.

He highlighted the strong military-defence cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia in recent years, describing it as a key pillar of bilateral relations. Both countries have maintained high-level delegation exchanges and effective cooperation mechanisms, including the deputy ministerial defence dialogue, collaboration in border management and protection, human resources training, and efforts to honor the shared historical legacy of Vietnam-Cambodia solidarity. The two sides have also worked closely in the search and repatriation of martyrs’ remains and supported each other at regional and multilateral forums.

Looking ahead, Thang emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the military-defence strategy research agencies of both countries. He called for the effective implementation of their memorandum of understanding on research cooperation, further information sharing, and the organization of strategic research training courses.

Thang assured that the leadership of the VPA General Staff would continue to support and facilitate cooperation between the two research agencies, further strengthening bilateral defence ties.

General Kim Vanna echoed Thang’s sentiments, expressing hope for continued collaboration and mutual support between the two sides, which would enhance the friendship between their militaries and contribute to peace and stability in the region.
