Ministry of Information and Communications promotes cooperation for AI, semiconductor developmentMinistry of Information and Communications

Recognizing artificial intelligence (AI) as a key technology of the fourth Industrial Revolution and the semiconductor industry as a crucial sector for the nation over the next 30-50 years, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has strengthened cooperation with global powers to develop these domains, an official has stated.

At a regular press conference on May 13, Le Nam Trung, Deputy Director of the MIC’s Authority of ICT Industry and Communications, emphasized that the ministry consistently supports enterprises in these fields, ensuring they have a conducive environment for business expansion.

The ministry will collaborate with competent organizations and enterprises to train high-quality human resources. It will also work with Nvidia Corporation, a US-based world leader in AI computing, to establish an AI Center for Excellence, and organize international conferences to gain insights from leading experts, Trung highlighted.

Furthermore, Trung noted that Vietnam is drafting a strategy to develop the semiconductor industry by 2030, with a vision extending to 2045. The goal is to establish Vietnam as a hub for the semiconductor chip industry by 2030, encompassing design, packaging, and testing operations.

The MIC has been tasked with creating mechanisms and incentives to support the development of semiconductor human resources. Le Nam Trung noted that the MIC will collaborate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment on a project aimed at developing semiconductor human resources by 2030, with a vision extending to 2045, ensuring alignment with strategic targets.

The two ministries will explore and propose measures to encourage technology firms to engage in human resources training, R&D activities, and technology transfer.

Regarding the semiconductor industry development strategy being implemented by the MIC in 2024, Trung mentioned that the ministry envisions Vietnam, with a developed semiconductor industry by 2045, becoming a key link in the global supply chain.

The industry will feature a harmonized infrastructure encompassing human resources, technologies, and R&D, among other aspects. This will contribute to the sustainable development of the digital industry, laying the foundation for the country’s digital transformation, digital economy, and digital government, he added.
