“Join the fishermen to illuminate the sea” program launched in Da Nang
In Da Nang City on March 30, the “Join the Fishermen to Illuminate the Sea” program was organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper in collaboration with the Da Nang Municipal People’s Committee. This initiative, launched by the Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper in early 2023, aims to extend across 28 coastal provinces and cities nationwide, with a budget exceeding VND 30 billion. Its objective is to support fishermen and work alongside local authorities to address the European Commission’s yellow card on Vietnamese seafood due to issues of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
During the event, Vice Chairman Tran Chi Cuong of the Da Nang Municipal People’s Committee highlighted the city’s commitment to sustainable fisheries development, closely linked to national defense and security objectives. He noted the implementation of various supportive policies and management strategies tailored to the local context.
Vice Chairman Tran Chi Cuong lauded the program as a practical and politically significant endeavor, contributing to the effectiveness of information dissemination efforts. Furthermore, he emphasized its role in bolstering the household economy of fishermen while actively safeguarding maritime sovereignty and combating IUU fishing.
As part of the program, the organizing committee distributed 200 gifts to fishermen and awarded 25 scholarships valued at over VND 2 million each to underprivileged students from fishing families.
