Former Lao Leader Praises Nguyen Phu Trong as Visionary and Skilled Diplomat
Nguyen Phu Trong, Party General Secretary of Vietnam, was a visionary leader and a skilled diplomat who valued international relationships, former Party General Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith told Vietnam News Agency reporters in Vientiane on July 22.
Vorachith extended condolences over the passing of Nguyen Phu Trong, describing him as the closest friend of the Lao Party, State, and people. He praised Trong as a revolutionary leader and resilient communist who dedicated his life to revolutionary activities and the causes of national liberation, reunification, and renewal of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Nguyen Phu Trong played a crucial role in strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, yielding substantial benefits for both countries, Vorachith said. He highlighted Trong’s ingenuity and insight in diplomacy, particularly through his “bamboo diplomacy” approach, which balanced relations with all countries. Trong’s efforts in promoting Laos-Vietnam-Cambodia relations through high-level meetings have advanced political ties and state-to-state relations among the three countries, enhancing the role and reputation of the Vietnamese Party and State globally and regionally.
In light of complex regional and global developments, Vorachith called for continued preservation and strengthening of the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam. He urged vigilance against hostile forces and emphasized the importance of educating the younger generation about the long-standing traditions of their bilateral relationship.
