Vietnam and China Collaborate to Foster a Borderline of Peace, Friendship, and Sustainable Development

On August 13, Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien welcomed a delegation from China’s National Immigration Administration, led by Deputy Head Li Junjie, during their working visit to Vietnam. Chien reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China, emphasizing the importance of building a community with a shared future that holds strategic significance. Among the key priorities is enhancing practical cooperation in defence and security, which is one of the six outlined strategic orientations.

Chien highlighted the steady progress in Vietnam-China defence cooperation, which has produced positive outcomes across various areas. These include delegation exchanges, the successful organization of the 8th Vietnam-China Border Defence Friendship Exchange, and the effective implementation of a three-level law enforcement coordination mechanism for border control and management. Activities such as border meetings, joint talks, hotline communications, official letter exchanges, and joint patrols have further strengthened law enforcement efforts along the border. The two countries have also worked together on crime prevention and control at border areas and gates, establishing twinned relationships between border posts and stations.

Chien praised the ongoing cooperation between Vietnam’s Border Guard and China’s National Immigration Administration, suggesting further coordination to effectively implement the agreement on the three-level law enforcement coordination mechanism. He also called for enhanced information exchange to combat various crimes in border areas, greater delegation exchanges at all levels, increased political and youth officer exchanges, the expansion of the “friendship ambassadors” model, and the strengthening of twinned relations between stations and border communities.

Li Junjie, in turn, shared the outcomes of talks between China’s National Immigration Administration and the Vietnam Border Guard Command. He expressed China’s commitment to continuing to enhance solidarity, friendship, and cooperation between the two forces, contributing to the establishment of a borderline marked by peace, friendship, cooperation, and sustainable development.
