Special communique on Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s passing
The late Party General Secretary will be laid in state at the National Funeral Hall, No.5 Trần Thánh Tông Street, Hà Nội, where the respect-paying ceremony will start at 7 am on July 25 and the memorial service will be held at 1 pm on July 26.
The Communist Party of Việt Nam Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Việt Nam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee have issued a special communiqué, announcing that Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng passed away at 1:38 pm on July 19, 2024, at the Central Military Hospital 108, Hà Nội.
The Communist Party’s Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Việt Nam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee have decided to hold the funeral of the late Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng with national mourning etiquette.
He will be laid in state at the National Funeral Hall, No.5 Trần Thánh Tông Street, Hà Nội, where the respect-paying ceremony will start at 7 am on July 25 and the memorial service will be held at 1 pm on July 26. The burial ceremony is to take place at 3 pm on July 26 at Mai Dịch Cemetery, Hà Nội.
At the Thống Nhất Hall in HCM City and in his hometown in Đông Hội Commune, Đông Anh District, Hà Nội, respect-paying and memorial ceremonies for the late Party General Secretary will also be held simultaneously.
Việt Nam Television and Radio the Voice of Việt Nam will broadcast the ceremonies in Hà Nội and HCM City live.
During the two-day national mourning period on July 25 and 26, national flags will be flown at half-mast at State offices and public places, and recreational and entertainment activities will be suspended.
A list of 35 members of the board for the funeral of Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng was announced, including:
1. Tô Lâm, Member of the Politburo, President of the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam, head of the funeral board.
2. Phạm Minh Chính, Member of the Politburo, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam.
3. Trần Thanh Mẫn, Member of the Politburo, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam.
4. Lương Cường, Member of the Politburo, Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee (PCC)’s Secretariat.
5. Đỗ Văn Chiến, Member of the Politburo, President of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee.
6. Lê Minh Hưng, Member of the Politburo, PCC’s Secretary and Chief of Office.
7. Trần Cẩm Tú, Member of the Politburo, PCC’s Secretary and Head of PPC’s Inspection Commission.
8. Phan Đình Trạc, Member of the Politburo, PCC’s Secretary and Chairman of PPC’s Commission for Internal Affairs.
9. Nguyễn Trọng Nghĩa, Member of the Politburo, PCC’s Secretary and Head of PCC’s Commission for Information and Education.
