Prime Minister Meets Vietnamese Community in South Korea

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a meeting on June 30 with representatives from Vietnam’s embassy, other agencies, and the Vietnamese community in the Republic of Korea (RoK) as part of his official visit to the country.

PM Chinh highlighted that the relationship between Vietnam and the RoK is currently at its peak, with both countries becoming each other’s leading partners across various fields. This comprehensive relationship fosters favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, work, study, and conduct research in South Korea.

Presently, the RoK is Vietnam’s top partner in direct investment, ranks second in development cooperation and tourism, and third in labor and trade cooperation.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State consider overseas Vietnamese an integral part and a valuable resource of the Vietnamese ethnic community. He acknowledged the significant and high-quality contributions of the Vietnamese community in the RoK to both the homeland and bilateral relations.

He urged the embassy to consistently care for the Vietnamese community, establish effective communication channels, and address their concerns promptly.

Ambassador Vu Ho reported that nearly 280,000 Vietnamese people currently reside in the RoK.

During the meeting, representatives of the Vietnamese community proposed initiatives to advance science and technology, innovation, and startups, particularly in emerging industries such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence. They also emphasized the importance of connecting scientists domestically and internationally and suggested mechanisms to mobilize resources and expertise from overseas Vietnamese to address domestic challenges.
