Vietnam considers Russia one of top priority partners: President

Vietnam consistently regards Russia as one of its top priority partners in foreign policy, President To Lam stated during a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Vietnam, Gennady Bezdetko, in Hanoi on June 17.

President Lam emphasized that the Vietnamese Party, State, and people deeply appreciate the significant and heartfelt support from the Soviet and Russian people, both historically during the struggle for national independence and reunification, and in ongoing national development and safeguarding efforts.

He praised the positive progress in the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia across various channels and areas. Noting a substantial increase in two-way trade, he pointed out the vast potential for further cooperation, particularly in economy, trade, investment, infrastructure, transportation, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

The President expressed confidence that the existing bilateral mechanisms will ensure the continued growth of the comprehensive strategic partnership. He welcomed the close coordination and mutual support at international forums, promoting peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.

Ambassador Bezdetko, in turn, committed to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership, highlighting specific areas of interest for reinforcing bilateral ties, including economy and trade, national defense and security, education and training, science and technology, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

Both parties agreed to coordinate closely to prepare thoroughly for the upcoming visit to Vietnam by President Vladimir Putin. They emphasized that this visit will further strengthen solidarity, traditional friendship, and the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, marking a significant milestone in their relations.
