Ba Ria-Vung Tau cracks down on IUU fishing

On May 28, Nguyen Cong Vinh, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, chaired a meeting to review the enforcement of regulations against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

During the meeting, it was reported that local authorities had uncovered six cases of violations, which have been handed over to the provincial police for further investigation. These cases included breaches of traceability rules and regulations related to the vessel monitoring system.

Vinh emphasized the need for strict enforcement of all relevant instructions and insisted that the identified violations be thoroughly addressed to prevent any offenders from escaping justice.

He instructed the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to evaluate the anti-IUU fishing efforts in local areas and prepare for the fifth inspection by the European Commission’s team.
