Soc Trang Province actively promotes awareness of anti-IUU fishing regulations

Soc Trang province authorities are working closely to raise awareness about regulations to prevent and combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing among local fishermen. On April 15, the Trung Binh Border Post in Tran De district, along with the Fisheries Sub-Department and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Soc Trang, organized a conference on anti-IUU fishing rules. Nearly 100 local fishermen, as well as vessel captains and owners in the district, attended.

During the conference, participants were briefed on the European Commission (EC)’s fishing regulations, the impacts of the EC’s yellow card warning against Vietnamese seafood exports, and the Prime Minister’s directives on urgent tasks and measures to address the warning. They also received information on legal regulations related to fisheries and guidance on port entry and exit registration procedures using the fishing vessel management system.

The Soc Trang Border Guard Command leaders stated that the activity aims to enhance local fishermen’s awareness and sense of responsibility regarding legal fishing activities. It also seeks to encourage all sectors and localities to support fishermen in strictly adhering to fisheries regulations. Additionally, raising awareness about laws and policies aims to mobilize fishermen’s involvement in protecting national sovereignty over seas and islands in the current context.

As part of the event, 100 national flags and 50 lifebuoys were presented to local fishermen.
